CHÂTEAU DE FONTAINEBLEAU

During the reign of François I, this former royal hunting lodge was transformed into a spectacular palace, which is still surrounded by the largest forest in Ile-de-France. It has remained a source of artistic excellence to this day.

VAUX LE VICOMTE

Magnificent baroque, moated château with formal gardens.

One of France's finest châteaux, Vaux le Vicomte was the residence of Nicolas Fouquet (1615-1680), a faithful minister falsely imprisoned for theft who gathered around him the finest artists, writers and poets of the time. 
All have left their mark on this magnificent estate, which merits a full day's visit to view the lavish interiors, extensive formal and ornamental grounds complete with dramatic fountains and horse-drawn carriage museum.
