Vaux le Vicomte

Magnificent baroque, moated château with formal gardens.

One of France's finest châteaux, Vaux le Vicomte was the residence of Nicolas Fouquet (1615-1680), a faithful minister falsely imprisoned for theft who gathered around him the finest artists, writers and poets of the time.
All have left their mark on this magnificent estate, which merits a full day's visit to view the lavish interiors, extensive formal and ornamental grounds complete with dramatic fountains and horse-drawn carriage museum.
Gaze in wonder at this fantasy creation that remains as resplendent as in Fouquet's day.
