SANG-BONG LIE

Lie Sang-bong is a creator of Korean fashion.

A graduate of the Seoul Institute of Arts, he launched himself into dramatic art and made his debut as a fashion creator in 1983 after winning a prize at the Central Design Contest. Since then, his creations have been worn by Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and even Lindsay Lohan.

Lie's designs are inspired by the history of imperial love between Napoléon and Joséphine, Korean poetry and calligraphy, cubism as well as Bauhaus design. His creations focus on both aesthetic beauty and practicality, like the combination between life and culture. This mix of French and Eastern influences creates a new single current based on the beauty of nature and sophisticated visual features. The artist uses bright colours such as red and purple, giving energy and freshness to his designs.

The Spring/Summer 2015 collection titled "Dream Road" evokes optimism and celebrates life.

"With this collection, I want to share the positivity caused by the start of spring and the promise of a new day," explains Lie Sang-bong, who was affected by a maritime catastrophe in his native South Korea a few months earlier.

Lie applies his signature architectural silhouettes with precise stitching in a range of luxurious fabrics, such as jacquard, organza and chiffon.    Jackets and dresses 'in the form of an X' are reminiscent of butterfly wings, a dreamlike symbol of transformation that the artist continuously references in his work.
